Cable Troubleshooting

Here are some simple solutions to common TV problems. Just follow this checklist before you call your service department.

No picture (static or snow):

  • Connect cable to "Cable In" connector on your DHT
  • Connect cable between your DHT "TO TV" and your "'TV Input" connector.
  • Plug in the DHT power cord.
  • Turn your DHT and TV on.
  • Make sure the terminal switch and the TVs channels selector are on the same channel -- either channel 3 or channel 4.
  • Tune your TV to channel 3 or 4. If you get no picture on one, try the other.
  • If there has been a recent lightning storm, reset you DHT (see the lightning protection circuit section).

Lightning protection:

  • The DHT features a lightning protection circuit. During a lightning storm, this circuit may activate to protect the rest of the circuit from damage. If this occurs, the terminal will appear to not work at all. To restore power, simply unplug the unit's power cord for at least one minute and plug it in again.

Poor reception:

  • Check every channel. If only one is affected, it's probably a temporary station problem.
  • Adjust the fine-tuning on your TV.
  • Make sure all connections at the wall, on the back of the DHT and on the back of the TV are tight.
  • Make sure you are not using poorly shielded coaxial cable.
  • If you are using a splitter, check to make sure it is the correct type. The best way to ensure the best performance with your digital cable signal is to use coaxial cable distributed by Time Warner Cable and ask us about the correct types of splitters. Our Time Warner Cable offices will provide this coaxial cable in 2', 4', 6', 8' and 10' lengths.

Missing channels:

  • Check the Parental Control features for blocked out channels or programming. Channels will not change:
  • If channel numbers change on the DHT but the actual channel does not change, you are in Bypass mode. Press the BYPASS button.

If you have followed the above checklist and still have a problem, just call our Service Department at 1-866-4TWCNOW (1-866-489-2669).

Note: Any attempt to open your home terminal will automatically cause it to stop functioning.
