Time Warner Cable

Types of Wiring

Existing Cable Outlet
Choose this option if we can use an existing cable outlet within 10 feet of where you want the television connected. If you are unsure, choose one of the "New Cable Outlet" choices depending on your wiring needs.

New Cable Outlet (Standard Wiring)
Standard wiring is when we bring the cable line into your room from a small hole in the floor using a crawlspace, or when we bring the wire into the room through small hole in an exterior wall. If you lack a crawlspace and your television is located on an interior wall, you may require custom wiring.

Since we will need to drill a couple holes for this type of installation, you will need to own the home. We cannot add or relocate cable outlets in rental properties, or in condo's and townhouses where regulations or home construction may prohibit this type of work.

New Cable Outlet (Custom Wiring)
Custom wiring may be needed if we can't position a cable outlet at the desired location either by drilling a hole into the room through an outside wall or by drilling a hole up through the floor from a crawlspace or basement. In this situation, two custom between the wall wiring upgrade options are available - Wallfish & Crawlfish:

  • With a wallfish an installer will bring the cable line into your attic from outside and then fish the cable line down between the desired wall from your attic. Since there is insulation between the walls on exterior walls a wallfish can only be performed on non-insulated interior walls.

  • With a crawlfish an installer will bring the coaxial cable line below your home from outside, either into a crawlspace or a basement. Then, the cable line will be fished up and in between the desired wall. Since there is insulation between the walls on exterior walls, wall fishes can only be performed on non-insulated interior walls.

Custom wiring is a complex and time-consuming job which will add additional time to your installation appointment. If you are taking time off from work for your installatin, please be sure to plan for additional time to accommodate this installation. Additionally, during hot summer months wallfish installations may not be available in afternoon hours due to extreme heat buildup in your attic.

Custom wiring is not available in all areas or in all dwellings. For rental properties, or in condominiums and townhouses a signed letter of permission from your landlord or homeowners association will be required before installation can proceed.
