Q:SA8600X Converter Configuration and Tips
A:

The 8600X converter includes the following home entertainment and information services:

The 8600X converter also features an on-screen menu and instructions that guide you step-by-step. The following guide will assist you in getting your converter connected to your television, using your remote, and programming your converter.
Connecting the 8600X to Your Television

Your 8600X is a sensitive electronic component. Avoid subjecting it to bumps, jars or excessive vibration and do not place heavy objects on top of the converter. To connect the 8600X converter to your television:

  • Plug your converter into a power receptacle that cannot be turned off by a wall switch.
Note: Never use a wrench to tighten the cable connection to your television and converter. Make sure these connections are "finger tight" only.
  • Plug your television into the power outlet on the back of the converter and turn on the television. Now when you turn on your converter, your television will also turn on, unless the television on/off switch is electronically-controlled. If the on/off is electronically-controlled, turn on the television after you turn on the converter. Also, if the converter power outlet is set for ALWAYS ON, you will have to turn off your television separately.

Note: The cable should be an RG-6U (or 75W equivalent) coaxial cable with two Male-F connectors. The length should be the appropriate length from the converter to your television.
Caution: To prevent electric shock, do not use the polarized plug with an extension cord, receptacle, or other outlet, unless the blades can be fully inserted to prevent blade exposure.

Using the Converter

Turn on the terminal by pressing the POWER button on either the remote control or your converter. The converter automatically tunes to the Prevue Guide. Set the volume by pressing the volume up/down buttons on the remote control or terminal until 4.5 appears on the terminal and BEST STEREO appears on the television.

Using the Cable Terminal Setup

The Cable Terminal Setup, accessible from the Main Menu, operates the following on-screen displays: Time, Volume Level, Channel Name and Number. The Cable Terminal Setup is also used to turn the clock display on or off, and allows you to maintain power to your TV and VCR to prevent loss of preprogrammed features, such as the digital clock or program timer. To use the Cable Terminal Setup:

  • From the Main Menu, highlight and select CABLE TERMINAL SETUP using the arrow buttons and the SELECT button on the remote control or the #2 and #3 buttons on the converter.
  • Follow the directions on the on-screen display.

Using the Remote Control

Your remote control (Model 8650-XT) operates selected features of almost any TV that uses a remote control, so you only need one remote. You can choose to have your remote control operate your television's power, volume and mute or power only. To program your remote control for either option:

  • Turn on your TV.
  • To operate your TV power on/off, volume and mute with the remote control, press and hold the TV POWER button and press 999 (or 9999 to operate ONLY the TV power on/off control with your remote control) on the number buttons, then release the TV POWER button.
  • Press and release the TV POWER button until your TV turns off. Note: This remote control will try at least 85 different codes, so this may take some time.
  • When your TV turns off, stop pressing the TV POWER button, then press the LAST button.

Accessing the On-Screen Menu
To access the on-screen menu:

  • Press the MENU button on either the remote control or the converter.
