Q:Why is a digital cable set-top box necessary for the Family Choice Tier?
A:

The digital cable set-top box is necessary to overcome the technical constraints of providing this tier. Some of the networks in the Family Choice package come from the traditional broadcast line-up and others from the digital line-up. The digital set-top box enables us to package the Family Choice networks into a single tier. The other expand basic networks (e.g., TNT, MTV, VH-1) that do not meet our criteria are blocked out – or trapped – before they reach the house. The digital set-top box also enables Parental Controls to also provide customers with an added level of security.
