Setting up your web browser involves many different configuration steps. Even though your Road Runner browser was installed with preset settings, there are many scenarios in which the settings can be lost, changed, etc. The following will give brief descriptions of what each facet of the browser settings are, and where to go to modify each setting.
Set your Home Page - Setting your home or start page can be an important feature in your browser. You may want a specific page to load, or perhaps none at all.

Cookies - A cookie is a small amount of data that a web site stores on your hard drive. The purpose of a cookie is to store a preference that you specify -- such as customizing a page or selecting a specific page to display when you visit that site again -- or to allow you to return to a site later and pick up where you left off -- such as web-based message boards.
The Road Runner web sites require the use of cookies. When you first visit the Road Runner web site, a cookie is set specifying that you are a Road Runner subscriber. This cookie then enables Road Runner to present content specific to your geographic area. A cookie will also be set when you visit Road Runner Help & Member Services.
To learn more about cookies and how to be alerted when cookies are placed on your computer see Cookies and Road Runner.
Cache - The cache temporarily stores information about web pages on your hard drive. The first time your computer asks for a page, your web browser retrieves the page from the network. When you request a page that has been accessed before, your browser checks to see if the page is available in a cache. You can change cache for different levels of sensitivity, or even turn off cache.

Proxy Servers - A proxy server lies in between your computer and the Internet. When you request a web page or other Internet content through your computer, you connect to your proxy. The proxy then requests the web page or content you're searching for on your behalf and returns it to you. The proxy's actions are carried out automatically and are invisible to you. A proxy is useful for filtering Internet content, connecting to the Internet through firewalls, and archiving web pages for quicker retrieval by users connected to it.
Road Runner does not support the use of proxy servers, and recommends that you disable proxies through your browser.
