What is a CableCARD?
CableCARD is an interface for digital TV that lets you plug your cable line directly into your TV set without the need for a set-top box. It's about the size of a thick credit card, and fits into a special slot built into digital TVs and a growing number of peripheral devices.

Why is Time Warner Cable offering CableCARDs?
Time Warner Cable is committed to supporting digital-cable-ready television sets and other devices, such as the TiVo Series 3 HD set-top box and the Microsoft Digital Cable Tuners.  By offering CableCARD service, Time Warner Cable is able to provide you with more choice.  Customers who prefer not to have a digital set-top box can use a CableCARD while customers who want to get the full-range of digital cable features (e.g. ON DEMAND, Pay-Per-View, and the Time Warner Cable On-Screen Program Guide) can continue to use the Time Warner Cable provided set-top box.

If I have a digital-cable-ready TV with a CableCARD and I move, can I take the CableCARD with me?
The CableCARD is owned by Time Warner Cable so when you move and disconnect your cable service, you should return the CableCARD to your local Time Warner Cable office.

If I already have a CableCARD in my television set, can I use that CableCARD in the Digital Cable Tuner device?
It is not recommended that you move CableCARDs between devices, as it will result in loss of services.  If you would like to use your previously activated CableCARD in another device, please call 1-800-617-4311 to schedule an appointment.

How much will I be charged to use a CableCARD?
There is a nominal charge $2.50 per month (Installation is $19.95) for the each CableCARD that you use. If you have a multi-card device on the same outlet (i.e. TiVo Series 3 or two Digital Cable Tuners connected to the same personal computer), you will be charged an additional regulated fee of $2.50 per month (Installation is $19.95) for additional CableCARDs.

Disclaimer: Regulated Prices quoted above may not apply in all markets.  Please call 1-800-617-4311 to learn more about Regulated Prices for your area.

If I have a CableCARD, do I still need my digital set-top box to get digital cable?
You may choose to use a CableCARD instead of a digital cable set-top box; however, to enjoy the full range of interactive services, such as Pay-Per-View, ON DEMAND and the Time Warner Cable On-Screen Program Guide, you will still need a digital cable set-top box until a new generation of interactive CableCARD supported devices is introduced in late 2007/early 2008.

Does CableCARD offer parental controls?
The CableCARD itself only provides the de-scrambling of scrambled digital services when authorized for those services and does not have parental control functionality.  Many digital-cable-ready televisions will have parental control capabilities in addition to the legally required V-Chip function.  Please check the owner’s manual or manufacturer for your particular television to learn about what parental control functionality may be available through your particular set.

If I have a digital-cable-ready HDTV set, do I need a CableCARD or special HD set-top box to view HD programming?
Digital-cable-ready HDTV sets that are now available have built-in HD capability so no special set-top box is required to receive HD signals for broadcast channels.  When used with a CableCARD, these TV sets will receive any Time Warner Cable Digital Cable channels that you currently subscribe to (e.g. ESPN, HBO, or Showtime).
**Note: ON DEMAND and some HDTV services require the use of a Time Warner Cable Digital Cable set-top box.

Can I purchase a CableCARD and if so, where?
At this time, CableCARDs are only available through Time Warner Cable as part of your Digital Cable service.

Will a CableCARD work in my cable-ready television?
No, CableCARDs will only work with digital-cable-ready TVs that are manufactured specifically to accept CableCARDs.

Can I install the CableCARD into my TiVo Series 3 HD by myself?
To ensure that your installation is performed accurately, a technician is required to install and activate the CableCARDs.  Please call 1-800-617-4311 to set up an installation appointment.
