CableCARD™
What is a CableCard?
A CableCARD is a small piece of equipment designed to work with TVs and other devices labeled as “Digital Cable Ready.” It's about the size of a thick credit card, and fits into a special slot built into CableCARD-compatible digital TVs and other devices, such as digital video recorders (DVRs) and personal computers.
CableCARDs let you access Digital Cable services, including premium and HD programming, without the need for a set-top box.
There are two types of Digital Cable ready devices that use CableCARDs: One-way Devices (UDCPs) and Two-way Devices (Tru2Way® Devices).
Do You Have a One-way Device (UDCP)?
Unidirectional Digital Cable Products (UDCPs) are one-way only devices. Most CableCARD-compatible TVs and some CableCARD-compatible devices like TiVo DVRs are UDCPs. UDCPs are able to get one-way analog and Digital Cable services, including some HD and premium services.
UDCPS cannot access any two-way services, such as:
- On Demand programming
- On-screen program guide
- Pay-Per-View services
- Interactive services, such as Start Over®, Look Back®, Caller ID on TV
- Channels that are delivered using Switched Digital Video technology
- Interactive technologies that may be introduced in the future
Do You Have a Two-way Device (Tru2Way®)?
Tru2Way® is a category of Digital TV equipment that is two-way capable, just like Time Warner Cable’s leased set top boxes. As a result, they are able to get ALL of Time Warner Cable’s one-way and two-way services.
We recommend that you refer to the User Manual that was supplied with your specific equipment to determine if it is "Digital Cable Ready" and if so, whether it is a UDCP or a Tru2Way device.
Do you have an OpenCable Unidirectional Receiver (OCUR) device?
An OCUR device is an attachment to a PC. It is a one-way digital cable receiver that uses
a CableCARD to view TWC’s unidirectional cable programming including HD channels. The OCUR is not capable of receiving two-way interactive services like TWC’s program guide,Video On Demand, Switched Digital Video, Pay-Per-View, Start Over® or Look Back®.
