More Information:
Shalom TV, the first national Jewish cable television network, is now available in Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania’s Time Warner Cable system as part of Time Warner’s FREE Video On Demand service. You can find Shalom TV on channel 512, Entertainment On Demand, or on the channel 1 On Demand portal, under Free, and then Entertainment.
Shalom TV, a mainstream Jewish network that offers an array of English-language programming, from entertainment and children’s shows to news analysis, event coverage, and Jewish studies, is currently available in more than 17 million homes nationwide on various cable systems.
“We’re thrilled to bring Shalom TV to the vibrant communities in Cleveland, Akron, Canton, Youngstown and Erie, PA,” said network president, Mark S. Golub, from his New Jersey offices. “Our programs are of interest to those in the Jewish community, as well as other communities.”
Shalom TV, which is neither a religious network nor one affiliated with any specific organization in the Jewish community, sees itself as a window into the marvelous totality of Jewish life. “There is something for everyone on Shalom TV,” Golub explained.
Golub gives enormous credit to Time Warner Cable for addressing the needs of the Jewish community, adding, “Shalom TV provides viewers with a way to enhance their connections to Jewish life, the State of Israel, and the Jewish tradition.”
“Time Warner is committed to delivering programming that reflects the diverse interests of our customers, and Shalom TV does that,” said Stephen Fry, President of the Northeast Ohio Division of Time Warner Cable. “We’re pleased to make it available at no additional cost to our digital cable customers with Video On Demand. We are confident that Shalom TV will resonate with our customers.”
Shalom TV programming, found on Time Warner’s Channel 1 or Channel 512 in Entertainment On Demand, includes:
“Jewish Film Festival” showcasing a new movie each week--including American and Israeli feature films, documentaries, and Yiddish classics.
The 92nd Street Y--exclusive television presentations of lectures and programs from the stage of the world-renowned cultural center in New York City.
“Jewish C-SPAN” featuring expert guest analysis and exclusive coverage of major events, rallies, and national conventions--with special emphasis on issues of concern to the State of Israel.
Shalom TV’s coverage of “Election 2008” has included such figures as Alan Dershowitz, Mort Zuckerman, Ron Lauder, David Harris and Dana Milbank; and has included in-depth
discussions of the sensitive issues relating to the current presidential hopefuls.
Through Shalom TV’s exclusive event coverage, viewers have watched Benjamin Netanyahu during UJC’s General Assembly; rallies and parades in support of Israel at the UN Plaza at Fifth Avenue; and a host of other meetings featuring compelling Jewish speakers. In addition, Shalom TV’s “Israel Update” is a weekly review of events of importance to the State of Israel.
“Shalom TV Kids,” the only place on American television where parents and grandparents can find Jewish programs for children--including a weekly “Story Time” for very young viewers, and an adventure series for older children called “Agent Emes.” Shalom TV has also created an original children’s program, “Mr. Bookstein’s Store,” introducing young people to Jewish holidays, Jewish customs, and the Hebrew alphabet.
“Jewish Studies” on Shalom TV features the thoughts of leading rabbinic minds from every movement of modern Judaism. Shalom TV is also the only place on television where one can learn to read Hebrew on the original network series “From the Aleph-Bet;” discover the world of Jewish mysticism on its exclusive series, “Kabbalah Revealed,” and study a page of Talmud through the Shalom TV production “Dimensions of the Daf.”
And in its original series, “Choosing Jewish Family,” Shalom TV addresses the issues faced by families in which there is a spouse who has converted to Judaism or where there is a mixed marriage committed to creating a Jewish home.
“A non-Jewish audience is also finding Shalom TV programming of great interest,” states Golub. “We have the privilege of introducing those outside the Jewish community to the beauties of Jewish life, as well as the spectrum of Jewish concerns. And many in the Christian community enjoy our beautiful travelogues of the Land of Israel as well as learning Hebrew.”
