Time Warner Cable

We’re big football fans, too. So every week we offer you a ton of games on ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC and ESPN. And we broadcast many of the games in HD so you’ll feel like you’re right on the field.

The NFL has decided to charge you for games that used to be free.
The NFL has moved games that used to be free on broadcast TV over to the NFL Network so they can charge you even more money. It’s just another attempt to take games away from the public so they can make as much money as possible through distribution rights. We’ve made a number of proposals to the NFL that would let Time Warner broadcast the games for free without paying extra, but the NFL has had only one response: no.

It's time to separate fact from fiction.

Time Warner Cable is not blacking out games.
Denying, blocking or blacking out games is all the work of the NFL, not Time Warner Cable. It was the NFL that moved games off of broadcast or ESPN and over to the NFL Network so they could get even more revenue.

We don’t want to charge you more every month.
It’s outrageous for the NFL to claim that we want to charge fans an extra $10 a month for these games. Only the NFL Network made the decision to charge more for games that used to be shown at no extra cost on broadcast TV or ESPN.

We’re willing to negotiate on reasonable terms.
Other cable companies are carrying the NFL Network on sports tiers and that’s exactly what we at Time Warner Cable are proposing to do. Even so, we’ve always come to the bargaining table with an open mind. We’ve given the NFL several options so that we could find true value for you, the NFL Network and Time Warner Cable. But once again, the NFL has had only one response: no.

We have not given preferential treatment to certain networks.
Once again, this claim by the NFL Network is absurd. Networks like TNT and TBS are popular with a broad range of customers throughout the year. CNN and Cartoon Network are long-established networks that enjoy high ratings throughout the year, too. HBO is carried like a sports tier so that customers who want to watch it can pay to see it and viewers who don’t want to watch it don’t have to pay for it.

The NFL Network is specialty TV programming.

Because the high-priced NFL Network only appeals to a small segment of our customers, we think the best solution is to carry it on a sports tier. Comcast already does this and we think it’s a fair remedy for everyone. So fans who want to see the games can pay to watch them and our other customers won’t have to share in the cost.

It all comes down to price and value.

When you look at the costs of the NFL Network carrying eight games over six weeks, the numbers just don’t add up. Their asking price is way too high and this clearly is not a good value.
