NEIGHBORHOOD TECHNOLOGY CENTERS

Neighborhood Technology Centers are being opened by Time Warner Cable to address "Digital Divide" issues that are pervasive in our urban, rural and suburban communities.
Our Neighborhood Technology Centers offer area residents who would otherwise not have the resources, a place to go to learn about and use computers and access the Internet.
Over the past six years, we have connected a total of 19 state-of-the-art neighborhood technology centers, installing workstations, personal computers, printers, scanners, cameras, software and High-Speed Internet connectivity through Road Runner High-Speed Online. To date, Time Warner Cable's investment in these centers has totaled over $500,000.00.
We also partnered with the Ibero-American Action League, Inc. , which is located in a primarily Hispanic neighborhood in Rochester. They provide advocacy and programs to low-income families to help them achieve economic independence.
In order to serve the needs of our communities' elderly, three low-income senior centers in the City of Rochester were also recipients of technology centers.
Through our partnership with PowerUP, we connected an additional four sites to the Internet located At Edgerton Community Center, Avenue D Recreation Center, VOA Western NY Inc. Children’s Center and the Carlson Metro Center Branch of the YMCA.
Alternatives For Battered Women, Rochester, New York also has a Technology Center. ABW is a not-for-profit agency serving victims of domestic violence in Rochester and Monroe County. ABW offers a safe and nurturing shelter for women endangered by domestic violence and their children.
We have expanded this program to include rural communities as well. We have completed four additional sites, the first is at Baldwin Stanton Meadows, a low-income housing development predominantly occupied by single mothers and senior citizens in Seneca Falls, New York. The second center, Community Action in Self Help, which focuses on housing assistance for families in emergency situations located in Lyons, New York. Community Unified Today, a resource agency that provides assistance to low-income families for housing and childcare in Geneva, New York.
In August 2005 a center was opened in the western portion of our service area. The Batavia Youth Bureau administers the Summer Recreation Program which serves over 3,000 youth. The Center also runs a drop-in after-school program with activities and services provided to youth geared toward helping youth grow into healthy, productive citizens.
In February 2006 two centers were opened in Sojourner House supportive living facilities, Monica Place and Nancy Watson Dean Place. Sojourner House provides transitional housing for women in crisis who are committed to rebuilding their lives. Here, women and their children live for up to six months. Sojourner House provides shelter and basic needs such as food, personal care products, laundry facilities, bed linens and towels.
Our most recent technology center was opened in November 2006 within the Pines of Perinton apartment complex at Partners in Community Development childcare facility. The Pines of Perinton is a low-income housing complex which offers a country setting to the diverse individuals who reside there.
This center was equipped with six Macintosh computers, printers, scanners, software specific to cutting edge-video and music creation, furniture and much more!
