Important Information About Battery Backup Power
& Your Digital Home Phone Cable Modem

Time Warner Cable Digital Home Phone is not a self-powered service.  During an electrical power outage, your Digital Home Phone service, including any medical or security alert service and E911 service, may not be available.  Located inside your Digital Home Phone cable modem is a backup battery that can help maintain your Digital Home Phone service in the event of an electrical power outage.  Your Digital Home Phone service will be available as long as 1) the battery in your cable modem stays charged and is operating correctly and 2) your cable network connection is working properly.  If you have a cordless telephone that requires electricity, then your Digital Home Phone voice service will not be available during an electrical power outage, even if the battery in your cable modem is operating.  Similarly, the battery back-up will not provide electrical power for home alarm systems or other equipment connected to the cable modem, such as devices used to assist customers with disabilities.

During an electrical power outage, the battery in your cable modem will provide from up to eight hours of backup power, depending on certain circumstances including the age and usage of the battery and the average temperature in the room where your modem is located.  Your cable modem and backup battery should not be exposed to high temperatures, which may shorten your battery’s life substantially.  During an extended electrical power outage, in order to preserve the battery, you should use your Digital Home Phone service sparingly, only for necessary calls, and do not use high-speed Internet services during the power outage.  This will ensure that your battery will provide backup power for the maximum amount of time possible.

An indicator light on the front panel of your Digital Home Phone cable modem indicates that your battery is charged and operating.  If the light blinks or goes off, this is an indication that the battery voltage is low or nearing the end of its operating life.  Your cable modem should be installed so that this indicator is clearly visible.  You are responsible for notifying Time Warner Cable that you need a new battery in your modem.  If the indicator light on your Digital Home Phone cable modem is blinking or no longer illuminated, or if you are experiencing other problems with your battery, please call Time Warner Cable at 1-800-TW-CABLE to determine if your battery needs replacement and, if so, to arrange for replacement.  If your backup battery needs to be replaced, we will express mail a replacement battery to your home for self-installation.  Detailed instructions will be included with the battery.  The cost of the replacement battery will be $35.00.  If your cable modem does not have an indicator light for the battery and you desire backup battery capability, please call 1-800-TW-CABLE to schedule a service call and Time Warner Cable will update your Digital Home Phone cable modem.

Time Warner Cable recommends that you check the battery condition in your Digital Home Phone cable modem at least twice a year.  To do so, unplug the modem’s power cord from the wall and verify that you still have dial tone on your telephone.  If the battery in your Digital Home Phone cable modem is no longer operating, you can also use an uninterrupted power supply (UPS) as a secondary source of power until your battery is replaced.  However, you should call Time Warner Cable to arrange for replacement as soon as you are aware that your battery is no longer operating.
