Time Warner Cable is not blacking out games. Denying, blocking or blacking out games is all the work of the NFL, not Time Warner Cable. It was the NFL that moved games off of broadcast or ESPN and over to the NFL Network so they could get even more revenue.
We don’t want to charge you more every month. It’s outrageous for the NFL to claim that we want to charge fans an extra $10 a month for these games. Only the NFL Network made the decision to charge more for games that used to be shown at no extra cost on broadcast TV or ESPN. They’re the ones trying to line their already overstuffed pockets some more, not Time Warner Cable.
We’re willing to negotiate on reasonable terms. Other cable companies are carrying the NFL Network on sports tiers and that’s exactly what we at Time Warner are proposing to do. Even so, we’ve always come to the bargaining table with an open mind. We’ve given the NFL several options so that we could find true value for you, the NFL Network and Time Warner Cable. But once again, the NFL has had only one response: no.
We have not given preferential treatment to certain networks. Once again, this claim by the NFL Network is absurd. Networks like TNT and TBS are popular with a broad range of customers throughout the year. CNN and Cartoon Network are long-established networks that enjoy high ratings throughout the year, too. HBO is carried like a sports tier so that customers who want to watch it can pay to see it and viewers who don’t want to watch it don’t have to pay for it. |
