Question:

Why is the Caller ID name display different than I have seen in the past?

Answer:

In August 2010 Caller ID display was changed to provide a more consistent and accurate method of presenting names for incoming calls to your Home Phone. With this change:

  • Calls from residential phone numbers: Names will display as mixed case, in Lastname, Firstname order.  If the entire first name cannot be displayed, only the first initial will display.
  • Calls from business phone numbers: Names will display as UPPER CASE and truncate after 15 characters.
  • If no name is available, then the caller ID locality will display city and state for calls from land lines, or “Cell Phone” & state for calls from cell phones
