In 1997 a unique partnership was formed between Time Warner Cable, Fox Sports Southwest and Baylor University Athletics. The Hometown Hero award was created to honor the “unsung heroes” in our communities who have exhibited extraordinary community service. These special people have pledged to support and drive the efforts in their communities to help future generations excel in today’s world.
A new facet, the Rising Hero, was added to the program in 2006. The Rising Heroes, local high school students who exhibited exemplary servant leadership, receive the Johnny and Tricia Mankin Scholarship for Volunteerism in commemoration of their efforts and leadership. This year alone, Time Warner Cable has awarded more than $15,000 as part of the Hometown Hero program. Time Warner Cable awarded Hometown Hero grants to community organizations designated by this year’s Hometown and Rising Heroes.
