Intern Profiles

Eric Miles Binghamton University Engineering "Want to know what it’s like to really work in the corporate world? Then consider an internship at Time Warner Cable. As an engineering student, I got to perform a variety of tasks, but was mostly involved in a project called DigSafely New York. On an Internet application, I mapped out all the underground lines throughout much of New York State that our division controls. So when a contractor wants to dig in an area, we can send out a Time Warner Cable representative to point out the exact location of buried lines. And while I was mapping lines, I also learned a lot of things that can’t be taught in school, including the importance of teamwork, interdepartmental collaboration and not being afraid to ask questions of those with more experience than myself. The technical side of the cable industry is really interesting. That’s why I enjoyed coming to work every day at TWC."

Charnee Perez Stony Brook University Human Resources "'Learning experience' is truly an understatement when describing my internship with Time Warner Cable. From assisting my supervisors with special projects like the launch of Employee Self Service to conducting phone interviews with potential intern candidates, I have learned hands-on what Human Resources at TWC is all about. My supervisors have not only been my bosses, but my mentors as well, taking the time to answer my questions and provide me with guidance and support. Whatever task I was assigned, I learned the importance and value of what I was doing and gained insight about the intricate workings of Human Resources. My internship with TWC has been a test drive for my life's work. They say practice makes perfect, which is why I keep coming back every summer."

Dwayne Waite, Jr. Elon College Business Services "The cable industry is a very different working experience than any other I’ve had. Being in an environment where it’s important to stay on the cutting-edge of technology has really changed my perspective. It’s been exciting to see how this company adapts to change so quickly. The Business Services Department has wonderful people and has helped me to learn the foundations of marketing and selling. I’ve established good connections with my fellow employees, interns and colleagues outside the company. My networking skills have been strengthened with this web of contacts I’ve built. Hearing the VPs present their departments is also greatly inspiring. Listening to what they do and seeing the excitement they share about their jobs encourages me to find a job that could fill me with as much passion as their jobs do them."

Joshua Wilcox Cedarville University Programming "My experience with Time Warner Cable has been an incredible time of growth and fulfillment. I began initially as a production designer in the programming department, creating web graphics for the Roadrunner member web site. It was really satisfying to be placed directly into the workflow of the department instead of being treated like a typical intern. At the end of the summer, the department offered me a part-time position working remotely while still at school in Ohio, allowing me to provide graphics for late night events when other employees would not be available. In 2006, the director of the production team asked me to return for another summer. This time, however, I gained a new experience as a producer. Using my own judgment, I selected the most compelling stories to feature on the site. Over and over again, I am surprised at how much responsibility is entrusted to someone just starting out. With this internship, my education has become more valuable because I see how it actually applies to my career."

Keir Hayden Howard University Operations Accounting "If you’re interested in an internship that offers variety, take a look at Time Warner Cable. During my first month at corporate, I completed bank reconciliations for 25 accounts, helped out with the analysis of two acquisitions and got involved in the monthly closing process. I learned about expense and capital project coding, capital spending, net gains, divisional income statement and more. Plus, I enhanced my Microsoft Excel proficiency and gained a great deal of knowledge about PeopleSoft, the central management and accounting information system at TWC. It’s been a great experience. The people I worked with helped me out along the way and really exposed me to many different aspects of the accounting process." |

Kate Pociask University of Wisconsin Sales and Marketing "When you have a great experience, you just can’t help coming back for more. This is my second summer at Time Warner Cable, and I am involved in meeting the needs of our Time Warner Cable retail store and third party retailers. Part of my job includes helping to plan store events and equip the staff with the tools and knowledge they need to be effective salespeople. I also get to work with interns from different departments on day-to-day projects and through the STARs intern program. We even produced an internal video together about being an intern at TWC, tied it into our “Power of You” brand, and had a whole lot of fun in the process. I am constantly learning new things here about the company and its services, and about professionalism and working in a business environment. In the process, I’ve gained self-esteem and made new friends and business acquaintances that will extend well beyond my internship." |

Ebonee R. Oliver University of North Carolina Accounts Payable (AP) and Technology Service Group (TSG) "Interning at Time Warner Cable provided me the opportunity to become part of a great family. You get hands-on experience and learn all kinds of different systems. Amazingly, I was assigned the same tasks and projects as employees who have worked there full-time at least a couple of years. One experience that made my internship valuable was the day I spent with Time Warner Cable’s technicians and customer service representatives to understand TWC not just from a corporate level, but the technical side as well. It really gave me an insight into the business working environment and how my learning at school is implemented in this atmosphere. I believe that my experience with Time Warner Cable Accounts Payable and the Technology Service Group has allowed me to enhance my future endeavors and career outlook." |
