Q:Are digital set-top cable boxes necessary?
A:

A digital set-top cable box (a.k.a converter) is necessary for any of the following reasons:

  • You don't have a cable-ready TV.
  • In cases where your TV, VCR or DVD cannot tune to all of the channels provided as part of your cable service.
  • You wish to subscribe to premium services, such as HBO or Showtime.
  • You wish to subscribe to Premiums On Demand, Movies On Demand and other Interactive services.
