What is it?
On the Internet, peer-to-peer (referred to as P2P) is a type of transient Internet network that allows a group of computer users with the same networking program to connect with each other and directly access files from one another's hard drives or share printers.
What are the security risks associated with it?
File and printer sharing increases the risk that other Internet users can gain access to files on your computer's hard drive. It also increases the risk of downloading viruses and malware to your computer. There are other, more secure ways to share your files with other Internet users - for example, emailing files you want to share directly to that person or configuring your computer to require the use of a password to access your files.
What is Time Warner Cable's policy?
To enhance the security of the TWC Internet network, it is our policy to disable this feature for all residential customers. This is completed at two locations: the customer's computer and the TWC Internet network. The TWC Internet installation software systematically disables the feature on your computer as part of the installation process. Because of the associated risks, Time Warner Cable recommends that customers do not re-enable the Print and File sharing feature.
