Email Spam Policy

Road Runner has a strict policy against "spamming." "Spam" is a slang term for unsolicited e-mail messages that are sent to users who do not request these messages. Spamming is usually intended to promote or otherwise advertise services and products.

Spamming is not allowed with any Road Runner account. Road Runner does not tolerate users who spam via e-mail, newsgroups, etc. You may receive a warning after we receive the first complaint from a customer, or, should we determine that the incident is severe enough to warrant it, your account may be cancelled. This is a zero tolerance policy.

What to do if You Get Spammed:

Some good places to start in tracking spam are:

Please also be aware that commercially available software provides various options restricting access to the Internet from or to your computer and you may want to consider use of one of those programs.

Road Runner does NOT disclose your e-mail addresses to any third party. Most likely your address was gathered via a harvesting technique that some spammers do. What they do is connect to the Road Runner mail server and try to send mail to thousands of "common" name combinations.

There are many ways in which spammers can get your e-mail address. Some of these ways are:

  • AOL Profiles
  • By Guessing & Cleaning
  • By Having Access to the Same Computer
  • From a Previous Owner of the E-mail Address
  • From a Web Browser From Domain Contact Points
  • From Finger Daemons
  • From IRC and Chat Rooms
  • From Mailing Lists
  • From Posts to UseNet with your E-mail Address
  • From Various Web and Paper Forms
  • From Web Pages From White & Yellow Pages
  • Via an Ident Daemon
