Show and Series Prioritization

Your DVR can record up to two shows at once.  If a third recording is attempted at the same time, one of the three selected programs will not record.  To be sure that you record the shows or series that are most important to you, follow these steps:

For Individual Shows:

If you select a 3rd show to record when two are already scheduled during the same time frame, you will receive a yellow screen that provides options of canceling either of the previous recordings or canceling the one you just requested.  Follow the on screen instructions. to choose which recordings are most important to you.

A similar screen will appear if you are recording two programs while watching TV.  If you attempt to change to a third channel, you will be prompted to cancel one of the recordings, or you can choose not to change channels.

For Series:

Your most recently added series recordings will always take top recording priority.  If you choose a third series to record when two are already scheduled, the recording you set up first will automatically cancel.  However, you can set priorities for your series using the following steps:

1. Press LIST and arrow right to highlight SERIES MANAGER.  Use the arrows to highlight the series you wish to prioritize.  Press SEL (Select).

2. Arrow down to highlight “Set Priority” and press SEL.

3. Use the up and down arrows to move the chosen series (Oprah as shown above) up or down on the priority list.  Placing a series at the top of the list will give it the highest priority.

New recording conflict resolution

When a show doesn’t broadcast as planned, an Exclamation Point will appear next to the program in the upcoming show list. If the program is in conflict with other recordings you’ve scheduled, a series of options will appear on-screen to help easily resolve the problem.

The Resolve Conflict screen helps to be sure that the shows you want to see will record.  In the event that you have a show that will not record (most likely because three recordings were set for the same time frame), RESOLVE CONFLICT will appear as a tab in your LIST. In addition, the show with a conflict will appear as a black cell in the guide with the letters REC with a line through them.

1. Press LIST and arrow right to highlight RESOLVE CONFLICT along the bottom of your screen.  Then arrow up or down to choose the program conflict you wish the resolve.  Each program will have the name with a line through REC next to it. Press SEL

2. Choose “Resolve Conflict” on the next screen and press SEL.

3. A yellow screen will appear outlining how to reestablish this recording.
Follow the instructions as provided.

Once recording conflict is resolved, your show will no longer appear in the resolve conflict list and the cell for your program will change from black to red (if set to record) or to blue.

Record log

Press the "List" button on your remote. The Recording Log tells you why a show didn’t record or was deleted so you can manage your recording needs.

As room is needed on your hard drive to record new programs, older programs will be deleted. Shows are deleted on a first in, first out basis, so your oldest programs will delete first. In your LIST there are icons that will indicate when a program is about to be deleted.

As shown in the image above the in the red triangle indicates shows that are pending deletion. If there is a show or shows that you wish to keep for longer periods of time, you may set them as “Do Not Delete”. To do so follow these steps:

1. Press LIST and highlight the show you wish to change to Do Not Delete.  Press SEL.

2. Arrow down to highlight “Record Options” and
press SEL.

3. On the Record Options screen, use the left or right arrow to change setting from “Delete As Needed” to
“Do Not Delete”.

4. Now in your LIST a green circle with a plus sign will appear next to your show.  This indicates that your program is set as Do Not Delete.

Note that if you set all your programs to Do Not Delete, once your hard drive has reached capacity, you will not be able to record any new programs.

3. If you wish to adjust the end time for a program, arrow down to “Adjust End Time” and arrow right to extend recording time from 1 minute to 5, 10, 15 minutes or more. 4. Many series show programs at different times throughout the day.  Take SportsCenter on ESPN.  It may air first at 11pm on Tuesday but it may also show at 1am or at 10pam the next day.  In this case you probably only want to record a specific air time.  On the Record Series Options screen arrow down to highlight “Air Time” and use the left and right arrows the select the specific time you wish to record. Press SEL to save.

Hard Drive Gas Gauge

The Navigator has a feature that will indicate how much storage space remains on your DVR’s hard drive for new recordings.
Press LIST and in the upper right hand corner below the video, “XX% Full” will appear in white font.  In this case, our DVR is 83% full.  This indicates that we may want to begin cleaning up the recorded programs LIST to be sure there is new room for new recordings.

As you delete programs form your list the % Full that is shown will decrease.

As described in the show list icons section above, an exclamation point will indicate that a show will soon be deleted to make room for new recordings.  To view an estimate how much time remains before a particular show is scheduled to delete, follow these steps:

1. In your LIST highlight any show and press INFO

2. In the bottom right hand corner of your screen you will see “Will delete in about XX hr.  In this case Polar Extremes is scheduled to delete in about 67 hours.

Note: This time frame is not exact.  It is an estimate based the number of shows that you have scheduled to record.  If you wish to ensure your program will not be deleted before you have a chance to watch it, follow the Do Not Delete instructions above.

New or Repeat Episode Indicator for Series

While in the guide or when you press INFO for a particular program, any series will include a message indicating if they are new or repeat episodes.

In the image above you can see that Animal Precinct is a NEW episode.

In this image, it indicates that Grey’s Anatomy is a REPEAT.

Note: This feature will only appear for programs that are part of a series.  NEW and REPEAT will not appear for news programs, single shows, movies or special events.  If a series does not show NEW or REPEAT, it means the network did not provide information for that particular show.  As it regards your series recordings, if there is no indication of new or repeat, the DVR will err on the side of new and record the show.

Fast Forward Jump Back

When you fast forward through a recorded or buffered program, once you then press play, your DVR will compensate;  meaning: it will jump back a few seconds from the time you press play.  The numbers of seconds your show will jump back varies based on the speed at which you fast forward; it will range between 1 and 7 seconds.  Because many customers find this to be such a convenient feature, it has been reintroduced with the Navigator.
