The Stereo Audio/Video Cable that is included with the Nintendo GameCube will allow you to connect the Control Deck to most televisions or video cassette recorders (VCR). First, look at the back of your television AND your VCR and see if you have Audio/Video inputs. Though your TV may not have them, almost all VCRs do.

Audio Video Inputs

  • Audio/Video (AV) inputs are located on the front or back of the TV or VCR.
  • They are smooth silver posts with the inside showing a color, usually red, white and yellow.
  • Look for inputs marked Audio and Video IN.
  • Do NOT connect your system to anything marked OUT.

Installation Steps:

  1. Locate the audio/video INPUT jacks on the TV. (Audio/video input jacks are also known as RCA JACKS.)
  2. Place the Yellow (Video) cable into the Video IN on the back of the TV. Connect the Red (Audio Right) cable to Audio IN Right. Connect the White (Audio Left) cable to the Audio IN Left.
  3. Connect the Rectangular (Gray) plug of the Stereo AV Cable into the Analog AV Out port on the back of the Control Deck.

  1. Make sure the system has space around side vents. Make sure the power button is in the OFF position (button is not pressed-in).
  2. Plug the AC Adapter into the back of the system into the DC 12V In port (fits only one way). Plug the other end into a wall outlet.
  3. Hook up the controller(s) starting from the far-left port on the front of the GCN.
  4. Press the Open button to open the Disc Cover. Insert a Game Disc, printed side up, into the compartment and on the center hub. Press down gently on the Game Disc until it locks on the center hub.
  5. Close the Disc Cover.
  6. Press the Power button on the Nintendo GameCube and check that the power light comes on. Turn on the TV and locate the input select. It's often called: input select, AUX (auxiliary), Line, Line In, Input, Source, Select, In, or EXT (external).
  7. The Nintendo GameCube logo should appear on the screen, followed by the game's main menu.

Installation Steps:

  1. Locate a set of open Audio Video INPUTS on the VCR. (Audio/video input jacks are also known as RCA JACKS.)
  2. Place the Yellow (Video) cable into the Video IN on the back of the VCR. Connect the Red (Audio Right) cable to Audio IN Right. Connect the White (Audio Left) cable to the Audio IN Left.
    Note: If you have a mono television with only one Audio input, check the diagram of how the hook-up will look. The Y-adapter pictured is optional; you can also simply leave the white cable disconnected instead.
  3. Connect the Rectangular (Gray) plug of the Stereo AV Cable into the Analog AV Out port on the back of the Control Deck.
  4. Ensure that your VCR is connected to your television via a coaxial (cable) connector from the ANT (RF) OUT on the VCR to the ANT IN on the television.

  1. Make sure the system is on a hard flat surface. Allow plenty of space around the unit for ventilation. Make sure the power button is in the OFF position (button is not pressed-in).
  2. Plug the AC Adapter into the back of the system into the DC 12V In port (fits only one way). Plug the other end into a wall outlet.
  3. Hook up the controller(s), starting from the far-left port on the front of the GCN.
  4. Press the Open button to open the Disc Cover. Insert a Game Disc, printed side up, into the compartment and on the center hub. Press down gently on the Game Disc until it locks on the center hub.
  5. Close the Disc Cover.
  6. Press the Power button on the Nintendo GameCube and check that the power light comes on.
  7. Turn on the TV and VCR, and set the TV to the appropriate channel to view a movie.
  8. Place the VCR in VCR mode by playing a movie and stopping it or by pressing the TV/VCR button.
  9. Set the VCR to the appropriate input select.

Important Note: You are looking for an input select for your VCR ONLY. You will not need to adjust or change any settings on your TV.

The Nintendo GameCube logo should appear on the screen, followed by the main menu.

  1. Set up system to play games.
  2. Insert a videotape.
  3. Press Record.

If you do NOT have AV inputs, you will need to use an RF Switch and RF Modulator for your hookup. The RF Switch and Modulator are sold separately.
