
High-Speed Internet Installation Guide
This quick reference guide is to help you set up your High-Speed Internet service provided through your UTSA Dorm Complex.
| Windows 2000/XP support: |
- Locate the outlet in your room that supports the Time Warner Cable connection for your Ethernet port. (The blue connection on the wall plate).
- Connect the CAT5 cable to the back of your PC using the Ethernet portion of your PC.
- Turn your PC on.
- Click on Start then select Control Panel.
- In either 2000 or XP Operating Systems you will click on Network Connections.
- In Network Connections you will highlight and right click on your Ethernet card (Local Area Connection) and select Properties.
- In the next window, scroll down in the middle to the connection using (Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)), highlight Internet Protocol and click on the button labeled Properties as seen below.

- In the next window, make sure under Internet Protocol Properties you have the following checked off: Obtain IP Automatically and Obtain DNS Automatically.

- Click Okay and then click Okay once more to exit both windows. If your computer asks you to restart your PC go ahead and restart.
- You should be connected at this point. Once your PC has started back up, test connectivity by launching a Web browser to see if you are able to browse the Internet.

| If you’re having trouble getting connected, test the following command function to verify you have a valid IP address: |
- Click on Start button then click Run. Clear the field and type cmd. Click OK.
- This will bring you to the following DOS window. Type in ipconfig as seen below and hit the ENTER key on your keyboard.

- You will be looking for a valid IP address from the network -- for example, 67.128.xx.xx or any of the other combination related to the IP network.
- If your IP address is 169.xx.xx.xx or states “media disconnected,” contact the onsite techs if available or go to the office and fill out the service request form online at
www.twc-sa.com/utsa/support/. |
