The Rising Hero Award is a scholarship program targeted toward outstanding students who go the extra mile to not only make good grades but also reach out and make his or her community a better place. Since it began in 2006, the Rising Hero program has awarded more than $60,000 in scholarships to local students.
This year, three of the five $2500 scholarships were awarded to nominees seeking degrees in science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM).
The focus on STEM degrees is a reflection of Time Warner Cable’s philanthropic initiative, “Connect a Million Minds.”
