Enhanced TV Service Provides 1000 Movies On Demand at $1.99 or Less

Release Date: 11/19/2008

Today, Time Warner Cable launched another innovation through its Enhanced TV platform, the Virtual Video Store.  Now available to customers in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, Mt. Vernon and Hudson Valley New York, and Bergen County New Jersey , the Virtual Video Store, a new convenient option, brings the On Demand movie library to 1,000 titles across six different genres.  Virtual Video Store is instantly accessible, inexpensive and delivers digital quality video and sound through its digital service.  When ordered, each movie is available for a 24-hour window, and customers can pause, rewind and fast forward the movie.  Less complicated than using a mail order service, Virtual Video Store movie selections are also attractively priced.

“Through Virtual Video Store, customers can choose from a diverse selection of movies at an affordable price by simply clicking the remote.  It’s the best option for customers who want movies instantly,” stated Howard Szarfarc, New York City Region’s Executive Vice President.

There’s no waiting in lines, or having to settle for a different movie when quantities are limited.   And there’s no waiting for movies to arrive in the mail or to download onto a computer.   “It takes seconds, really.  Simply select the movie from the On Demand library, and with the click of a button the movie begins.  It’s that easy,” added Szarfarc.  “Time Warner Cable has consistently developed exciting innovations and combined them with affordable packaging to make in-home entertainment more convenient for our customers.”   Titles are modestly priced at $1.99 or less.

The number of movie titles will continue to expand each month, creating a virtual video store environment at home for the digital cable customer.  Virtual Video Store adds titles from major Hollywood studios organized into six groups:

  • Kids & Teens (Channel 1001)
  • Classic (Channel 1002)
  • Action (Channel 1003)
  • Comedy (Channel 1004)
  • Thriller (Channel 1005)
  • Drama (Channel 1006)

Monthly promotions featuring themed and discounted Classic movie bundles will be offered.  This new service supplements the company’s highly popular Movies On Demand, Channel 1000; International Movies On Demand, Channel 500 and Español Movies On Demand, Channel 800.

Virtual Video Store adds to Time Warner Cable’s suite of recent Enhanced TV offerings including Start Over, Caller ID on TV, Photo Show TV and scores of HD On Demand channels.
