SAN DIEGO, CA. (June 27, 2008) - Throughout July, Time Warner Cable presents the seventh annual Clothes 4 A Cause business clothing drive. People are encouraged to donate ready-to-wear business outfits to benefit individuals enrolled in job training programs with the Alpha Project. Through these programs, men and women receive career development, encouragement, and clothing suitable to wear in a business environment, allowing them an opportunity to become self-sufficient professionals. While many offices are now business casual, it is always important to make a fantastic first impression. The campaign is in its seventh year, and since its inception, more than 7,200 complete business outfits were donated from generous San Diegans for men and women making a fresh start in life.
Donations are accepted at any of the 22 San Diego County Mission Federal Credit Union locations or Time Warner Cable’s San Diego, Carlsbad, Del Mar and Coronado offices. For each complete business outfit donated, donors will receive a chance to win a $1,000 shopping spree to Westfield Shopping Malls, courtesy of Mission Federal Credit Union. Donors also have a chance to win prize packages from sponsors. For a complete list of drop-off locations and details on prizes, please visit www.twcsd.com, and click on “In the Community.”
“Time Warner Cable is proud to put on this business suit clothing drive, which is the largest of its kind in San Diego County,” says Marc Farrar, vice president of public affairs, Time Warner Cable San Diego. “We feel that it is so important to support the Alpha Project in its employment programs.”
Because of Mission Federal Credit Union’s branch locations throughout San Diego County, their participation enables more residents to get involved in the effort. “Mission Federal is thrilled to provide donation locations that are convenient for our members and the public at large,” said Tricia Link, vice president communications and community relations, Mission Federal Credit Union. The organization has also enhanced the clothing drive to include a financial literacy curriculum partnership with Alpha Project. “The online education program helps Alpha Project participants on their own ‘mission to succeed’ at work, at home and in their communities,” describes Link. The six-unit, web-based program provides them with a greater understanding of, and ability to manage, their personal finances. The program teaches goal setting, budgeting, and saving through simulations, case studies and interactive exercises.
This is the fourth time Alpha Project is involved with the Clothes 4 A Cause initiative. Alpha Project strives to end homelessness for its clients and provides an alternate direction into a life of responsibility and dignity. “It is businesses like Mission Federal Credit Union and Time Warner Cable, as well as the public at large who allow us to provide the best possible services to those in need,” said Bob McElroy, president and CEO, Alpha Project. “We are also excited this year to be able to utilize Mission Federal Credit Union’s online education program to help our clients. It’s a wonderful opportunity for us to take Clothes 4 A Cause to the next level, and provide clients with the tools they desperately want and need to make a fresh start in life,” continued McElroy.
