June 26, 2009 – Staten Island, NY – The 2009 Cranial Crunch Championship trophies were presented this month to the high school and intermediate school winning teams in Time Warner Cable’s exclusive academic game show competition. Teams and coaches from the eight participating public high schools and eleven public intermediate schools gathered to receive awards from Time Warner Cable and to celebrate the completion of another successful season in which many of the Island’s brightest students matched wits and academic prowess under pressure.
“Cranial Crunch connects young adults to opportunities that will challenge them to reach beyond their own expectations and achieve their full potential”, stated Harriet Novet, Regional Vice President of Public Affairs, Time Warner Cable’s New York City Region. “It’s inspiring to see the high level of academic performance of these outstanding New York City public school students.”
I.S. 72 was crowned intermediate school champion while Staten Island Technical High School was declared the winner at the high school level. Other participating schools included Curtis High School, McKee Career and Technical High School, New Dorp High School, the Michael J. Petrides School, Staten Island Technical High School, Tottenville High School and Susan E. Wagner High School as well as Intermediate Schools 2, 7, 24, 27, 34, 51, 61, 72, 75 and Petrides.
Cranial Crunch was created by Time Warner Cable to showcase Staten Island students who are achieving academic success in the classroom. Since premiering at the intermediate school level in March 1997, over 1750 students have participated in the academic game show which airs on Time Warner Cable channel 76 and Staten Island on Demand channel 1111.
