CHARLOTTE, N.C. (November 4, 2015) – Time Warner Cable (TWC) has completed the rollout of faster Internet speeds to all its customers in the Charlotte area, with the fastest offering, Ultimate Internet, delivering download speeds up to 300 megabits per second. Customers with any of the six Internet plans offered by TWC in its Charlotte service area have access to faster speeds at no additional monthly cost, with customers experiencing speeds up to six times faster, depending on their current level of Internet service. Customers may need to upgrade their modem to access the increased speeds.
The faster Internet speeds mark the completion of the “TWC Maxx” rollout in Charlotte. The speed upgrades are available throughout the Charlotte area, including the following communities:
Albemarle, Badin, Boiling Springs, Charlotte, Cherryville, Clover (S.C.), Concord, Ellerbe, Gastonia, Harrisburg, Huntersville, Indian Trail, Kannapolis, Kings Mountain, Matthews, Monroe, Mooresville, Rockingham, Salisbury, Shelby, Statesville, Wadesboro, Waxhaw and Weddington.
“We know access to faster Internet is important to our customers, and with the completion of TWC Maxx, all of our customers in the Charlotte area have access to faster speeds at no additional monthly cost,” said Charlene Keys, area vice president of operations for Charlotte. “Faster and more reliable Internet, more HD video and enhanced network reliability are just the beginning of the benefits our customers will enjoy from TWC Maxx.”
In all, Time Warner Cable is investing almost $42 million in the Charlotte area to bring customers these faster speeds and other service enhancements. Additional components of TWC’s new customer experience with TWC Maxx include:
New TV Experience
Along with ultra-fast Internet speeds, TWC Maxx includes access to an all-digital TV lineup. A 100% digital lineup brings customers better picture and sound and frees up capacity in the network for additional channels, more than 20,000 On Demand choices — growing to more than 25,000 by the end of the year — new features and even faster Internet speeds in the future.
The advanced TV experience also includes an Enhanced DVR, which lets customers simultaneously record up to six different programs, and the ability to save up to 150 hours of high-definition (HD) programming on its 1TB (terabyte) hard drive, which is twice the storage of the largest prior model.
Rock-Solid Network Reliability
As TWC has committed to new network performance standards companywide, this initiative will include a stringent review and upgrade of every network connection site (referred to as hubs) to ensure optimum service levels are delivered to every neighborhood. Each TWC hub serves thousands of customers with TV, Internet and phone services.
Along with TWC Maxx, Time Warner Cable has activated almost 7,000 TWC WiFi® Hotspots, located both in popular outdoor areas and in indoor small business locations throughout Charlotte like restaurants, cafes, hair salons and doctor’s offices. Qualified customers can currently enjoy more than 1,900 outdoor hotspots in high traffic locations, with more hotspots to be added through 2015. Some popular outdoor hotspot locations include:
