$30,000 of Tuition Assistance Provided to 15 Local High School Graduates

August 8, 2006 – New York, NY – Time Warner Cable of New York and New Jersey announced that it has awarded $30,000 in scholarships at an awards breakfast, where Nancy Grace served as the keynote speaker, at the Time & Life Building in New York City. The scholarship program is exclusive to children of Time Warner Cable customers. This year’s recipients include 15 class of 2006 high school graduates selected from within Time Warner Cable’s service areas -- New York City (Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island and Brooklyn), Mt. Vernon, Hudson Valley, and Bergen and Hudson Counties, New Jersey.  Each recipient will receive $2,000.

Since the inception of the program in 2000, more than $275,000 has been distributed to local college-bound students.  Scholarships are awarded on the basis of financial need, community involvement and academic performance.

“Education is at the forefront of Time Warner Cable’s community investment. We developed the scholarship program exclusively for our customers to assist with costs associated with higher education,” stated Harriet Novet,  Vice President, Public Affairs, Time Warner Cable of New York & New Jersey.  “This scholarship program is one example of how we honor our obligation to share our expertise, technology, and resources in the communities we serve,” added Novet.

Nancy Grace is the host of Headline News’ legal analysis program, Nancy Grace, on Headline Prime.  Based in CNN’s New York bureau and widely recognized as an inspirational speaker, she has appeared as a legal commentator on CNN’s Larry King Live, ABC’s The View, The Oprah Winfrey Show and numerous other cable and network programs. She also hosts her own daily legal program on Court TV, Closing Arguments.

Time Warner Cable’s commitment to education includes scholarships and grants, complimentary high speed Internet access and video to public schools, internship and trainee programs, complimentary teacher resource guides and workshops for educators, together with a variety of unique learning opportunities throughout the year. 

Recipients represent Bay Ridge, Chelsea, Chinatown, Cornwall-on-Hudson, East Harlem, Fort Lee, Flushing, Glen Oaks, Jamaica, Kingston, Mount Vernon, New Windsor, Soho, and Staten Island. Students plan to pursue higher education at colleges such as Harvard University, University of Pennsylvania, New York University, and John Hopkins University.
