Time Warner Cable Local On Demand Channel 1111 now is featuring students from Hilliard’s J.W. Reason Elementary School and Columbus’s Fair Arts Alternative Elementary School. Students experienced the visual and spoken beauty of artist Dale Chihuly as part of a unique education initiative at Franklin Park Conservatory.
As part of an Ingram-White Castle Foundation grant to support children’s education programming for the exhibition Fiori: A Chihuly Garden of Glass, Conservatory education staff worked with 100 J.W. Reason third-graders and 45 Fair Arts Alternative fourth-graders. Students from both schools collaborated on a program that provided separate and combined visits to Franklin Park Conservatory and offered teachers a creative language arts option for all. This expanded into a comprehensive program that integrated art, music, math and vocabulary while encouraging growth in speech, reasoning and writing practices.
To view the “JW Reason Chihuly” program, customers may tune to digital channel 1111 and select the “Arts & Leisure” category. “JW Reason Chihuly” is available under the “Features” tab. Once selected, customers may play, fast forward, rewind, pause and re-watch the program using the remote control.
