Raleigh, NC (March 21, 2012) –Ten Years ago News 14 Carolina changed the way people watched local news with newscasts and weather forecasts available around the clock. This Thursday, March 22, marks the ten-year anniversary of News 14 Carolina, an exclusive service on Time Warner Cable. News 14 Carolina is a 24-hour local news network providing statewide coverage.
“In 10 years, News 14 Carolina has expanded from the initial markets of Raleigh and Charlotte to cover the Triad and Coastal regions,” said Alan Mason, vice president and general manager, News 14 Carolina. “Our team is thrilled and thankful for the positive response we’ve received over the past decade from viewers across the state.”
The station has won numerous national, state and regional awards for its coverage. The station’s most recent awards include first place in general news and political coverage of an election by Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas (RTNDAC). The news channel also has received the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award for best website, www.news14.com and an Emmy Award for the documentary: School Violence Preparations.
News 14 Carolina was the first television channel in North Carolina to produce four simultaneous news channels with content targeted to the market each serves. A state-of-the-art digital news and production system, combined with Time Warner Cable’s high-speed video and data infrastructure, allowed News 14 Carolina to pioneer the hub concept for regional news channels.
In addition, News 14 Carolina has the state’s largest staff of television meteorologists providing its popular “Weather on the One’s” forecast segment around-the-clock. News 14 Carolina is also the only local channel to produce and air Sports Night, a 30-minute program devoted to sports coverage and Political Connections, an in-depth weekly show covering state and local politics.
“Frankly, I’m excited and astounded by the positive response and wonderful feedback we receive from viewers across North Carolina. Not only is News 14 Carolina on in homes, but our staff is proud when we see News 14 Carolina on in businesses, government offices, emergency operations centers and other public places across the state,” added Mason.
To commemorate the ten-year anniversary, News 14 Carolina will start an on-air marketing campaign in the coming days celebrating 10 years of News 14 Carolina. It will run for several months on all channels across the state. For additional information about News 14 Carolina, please visit www.news14.com.
