OVER 400,000 YOUNG MINDS PLEDGED IN TIME WARNER CABLE’S CONNECT A MILLION MINDS INITIATIVE TO INSPIRE TODAY’S YOUTH

(New York, NY) – Time Warner Cable (TWC) has reached a milestone with Connect a Million Minds (CAMM), the company’s five-year, $100 million philanthropic initiative to introduce kids to afterschool science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).  Recently, Connect a Million Minds hit the 400,000 minds pledged mark, putting the initiative ahead of schedule in its mission to connect one million young people to informal learning opportunities.

Since the program’s launch in 2009, thousands of people from all fifty states have visited connectamillionminds.com and pledged their commitment to connect young people to hands-on STEM opportunities like science fairs, robotics competitions, science camps and more:

“We are very excited to have reached this significant milestone less than two years into our initiative,” said Tessie Topol, Time Warner Cable’s Senior Director, Strategic Philanthropy and Community Affairs. “We look forward to connecting more young people to opportunities today that can inspire them to pursue STEM education and careers tomorrow.”

To drive consumers to its website to pledge, Time Warner Cable has recently launched several new awareness-raising campaigns. In January the company introduced new Public Service Announcements that feature Time Warner Cable employees sharing how their volunteering experiences have made a difference in their communities.  More recently, the company premiered It Ain’t Rocket Science, a half-hour special highlighting efforts to engage young people around science and technology.
