Time Warner Cable and Cartoon Network will bring the network’s GET ANIMATED Tour to the 4S Ranch community of San Diego on Saturday, June 11, 2005 at Stone Ranch Elementary School from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The 30-city tour is designed to motivate, energize and educate kids, age 6-14, about healthy living choices by using the power of Cartoon Network’s shows and characters.
Obesity is one of the most common health problems facing children today. At the San Diego GET ANIMATED event, kids will have the opportunity to engage in physical activities that promote the message of keeping in shape. Activities will include a basketball challenge, wall climbing tower, hockey maze and jump rope/hula hoop activities. All activities will be themed around Cartoon Network characters, including Teen Titans, Dexter’s Laboratory, Code Name: KIDS NEXT DOOR, Billy and Mandy, Totally Spies, Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, Puffy AmiYumi and PowerPuff Girls. The GET ANIMATED Tour will make 30 stops across the United States from May 30-September 5, 2005.
“We are pleased to partner with Cartoon Network to help educate our community’s children about healthy living choices,” said Marc Farrar, vice president public affairs, Time Warner Cable San Diego. “With the beautiful weather we are fortunate to have in San Diego, families and children should take that opportunity to play outside and get animated!” For information about the San Diego stop, please call (858) 805-6789 or visit www.twcsd.com.
Kids will also have the opportunity to sample Cartoon Network’s Animate Your World Program: Shaping Character (AYW). AYW is an innovative and unique CD-ROM program developed to help educators, both in and out of the classroom, incorporate character education skills and healthy lifestyle habits into their daily curricula. AYW provides students with the tools to create their own animations, learned through the many activities and resources found on the CD-ROM.
