Time Warner Cable Taps Its All-Star Employee Base as it Continues its Mission to Connect a Million Minds

(NEW YORK, NY) – Time Warner Cable (NYSE: TWC) announced the creation of an internal, all-star technology expert line-up to encourage the next generation of problem solvers during Connect a Million Minds® Week, March 22- 27, 2010. More than 1,500 Time Warner Cable employees will serve as role models and mentors as middle school students participate in the company’s signature technology curriculum, “Cracking the Codes in the Digital World™.”

Based on national science standards, the hands-on, inquiry-based curriculum showcases the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) behind the world of cable television.  By partnering with such national organizations as the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girls Inc., 4-H, Boys & Girls Club and more, students will visit Time Warner Cable facilities in California, New York, Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Colorado, Missouri, Nebraska, Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Idaho, Maine, Arizona, West Virginia and Wisconsin in order to dig deeper into the mystery and science of cable television.

Among the all stars participating in Cracking the Digital Codes are: Kevin Leddy, Executive Vice President, Advanced Technology Group; Jim Ludington, Executive Vice President, National Network Operations and Engineering, James Manchester, President of Network Operations, New York City, and Paul Conway, Vice President, Engineering, New York City.  Additional all- stars from up and down the organization also will help kids participate in Time Warner Cable’s after school program.

“We have some of the best and brightest employees in the technology industry,” said Susan Warner, Senior Director of Community Affairs at Time Warner Cable.  “It’s our hope that the students who come to our buildings throughout our footprint this week see how our technology all comes together and in the process, encourage them to pursue STEM-related education and careers.”

Participants in Cracking the Codes in the Digital World™ will develop a technological understanding of how a cable television signal is created using energy conversion, transmitted through space and received in the home.  The program aligns with the company’s mission to connect people and businesses with information, entertainment and each other in ways that are simple and easy.
