To Cable Television Via Free On Demand Service
New York, November 16, 2005 – Direct from the pages of Time Out New York (TONY), New York’s must-read entertainment “bible,” comes Time Out New York On Demand, a new cable service designed to empower viewers to make choices about where to go and what to do in New York City, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The service is available exclusively on Time Warner Cable of New York and New Jersey.
Launching on November 17, 2005, Time Out New York On Demand will be available free to Time Warner Cable of New York and New Jersey digital customers in Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island, Brooklyn, Mt. Vernon and Hudson and Bergen counties on Channel 1112. The channel will be composed of hundreds of segments, with new profiles added each week in seven categories taken from the pages of TONY: Eat Out, Nightlife, Theater, Check Out, Chill Out, Around Town and Kids.
Time Out New York On Demand will bring the pages of the weekly magazine to life with a vast video library of short-form hosted segments, feature reviews and insights from the editors at TONY, combined with video highlights of each unique New York City destination.
“Time Out New York is the most comprehensive and authoritative source for information on where to go and what to do with your entertainment dollar in New York,” said Alison Tocci, President and Group Publisher of Time Out North America. “We’re thrilled at the opportunity to join forces with Time Warner Cable and City On Demand to extend the reach of our brand to digital customers with the launch of TONY On Demand.”
The idea of creating an urban, short-segment-video On Demand channel was the brainchild of former senior television executives at HBO and Emmy Award–winning Tupelo-Honey Productions, who formed a partnership to create City On Demand.
“What we have accomplished through our partnership, and by collaborating with Time Out New York and Time Warner Cable, is to launch an unprecedented video-on-demand channel that is driven by actual editorial content,” remarked Eric Levin, who co-founded City On Demand along with John Ovrutsky and Cary Glotzer.
"Time Warner Cable is excited about this unique local content using On Demand technology that is only available through cable's interactive platform," added Barbara Kelly, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Time Warner Cable of New York and New Jersey. "This New York--centric programming is available exclusively to our digital customers and is part of our free On Demand offerings. On Demand allows customers to watch programming on their schedule--it's the ultimate in convenience and control."
Time Out New York On Demand takes viewers behind the scenes of New York City’s best restaurants, nightclubs, theatres and family locations so that they can quickly choose a great place to go. Is it loud? Is it crowded? What ages does it appeal to? Is it expensive? With the guidance of hosts who live in New York, and opinions from Time Out New York’s trusted entertainment editors, viewers can tune in, and then get out and enjoy NYC. Time Out New York On Demand is a free channel available exclusively to local Time Warner Cable digital subscribers and is listed as Channel 1112.
