Concord, NC – In celebration of a new three-year partnership, Time Warner Cable and Hendrick Motorsports hosted more than 700 guests, mostly Time Warner Cable customers, at an invitation-only star-studded celebration at Hendrick Motorsports.
Earlier this month, Hendrick Motorsports announced Time Warner Cable as a primary sponsor in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. The agreement, through 2015, includes primary paint schemes with driver Kasey Kahne.
“Tonight’s event was the perfect way to kick off our expanded partnership with Hendrick Motorsports. Aligning the Time Warner Cable brand with Kasey gives us broad exposure to an important segment of our customers. We were happy to host hundreds of them at this celebration,” said Jeff Hirsch, executive vice president and chief marketing officer, Time Warner Cable.
The highlight of the event was the unveiling of the No. 5 Time Warner Cable Chevrolet. SPEED personalities gave the green flag for the car to enter the stage. Attendees watched and listened as the engine roared, the tires screeched, and smoke filled the room. As the smoke cleared from the burnout, they were amazed to see the car before them was not the real No. 5 car, but rather a full-size cake replica of the car made by pastry chef artist and reality TV star Duff Goldman of Charm City Cakes. It took Goldman and a team of his designers and decorators more than two weeks of engineering, fabrication, carving and decoration to complete the car cake. A few moments after the car cake fooled the audience, Kahne drove out the real No.5 Time Warner Cable car before the cheering crowd.
Guests were given the special opportunity to meet NASCAR stars Kasey Kahne and Jeff Gordon. Several guests also toured Hendrick Motorsports. Country artists Little Big Town performed a private concert for the lucky attendees. Group members Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, Jimi Westbrook, and Phillip Sweet harmonized on hit singles including this summer’s smash release, “Pontoon” – currently atop the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.
SPEED Talent John Roberts, Kyle Petty, Larry McReynolds, Kenny Wallace and Matt Clark were on hand for the event with NASCAR Race Hub’s Danielle Trotta interviewing Kahne, Gordon, and members of Little Big Town. Interviews from the evening and footage from the car cake “burnout” and No.5 unveiling can be seen on SPEED Ch. 512 or 1512 (HD) on the SPEED Center – NASCAR Edition program on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. EST.
“The nature of our expanded relationship with Hendrick Motorsports allows us to offer fans new and exciting ways to enjoy racing better throughout the entire season,” added Hirsch.
