Charlotte, NC, December 19, 2011 – Time Warner Cable and News 14 Carolina wrapped up its month-long “Holiday Hopes & Happenings” drive by delivering more than 6,400 toys and gifts and 1,500 pounds of food for families in need across North Carolina and South Carolina. In addition, more than 200 Time Warner Cable employees are volunteering across the Carolinas, delivering gifts and working at area gift and food distribution centers.
Together with generous contributions from the public, Time Warner Cable employees purchased toys, food and other items to benefit families served by The Salvation Army, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Easter Seals UCP and the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina.
“We are so proud to have partnered with all of these wonderful organizations for our holiday giving effort, groups that provide vital services all year long for families in need,” said Darrel Hegar, regional vice president of operations, Time Warner Cable Carolinas. “Helping our neighbors is what this season should be all about, and we’re very pleased to have been able to play even a small part in making the holidays a little brighter this year for families across North and South Carolina.”
“The face of need continues to change, and with community efforts like Holiday Hopes & Happenings, needs are being met at record levels,” said Major James Seiler, General Secretary for The Salvation Army’s Carolina operations. “The new economy is having an impact on us all, and pulling together as a community, as neighbors, is the only way we can help.
“Simply put, thousands of children across the Carolinas will have new toys and gifts on Christmas morning that would not have been possible without the partnership of Time Warner Cable and News 14 Carolina," said Seiler.
