Stamford, CT and Arlington, VA – February 22, 2006 - Time Warner Cable today publicly unveiled a new Public Service Announcement (PSA) created and produced on behalf of the National Emergency Number Association (NENA). The PSA reinforces the benefit and importance of Enhanced 9-1-1 (E9-1-1) service and features to consumers.
“The National Emergency Number Association recognizes that Time Warner Cable, as a phone service provider, understands the importance of E9-1-1. We were happy to work with Time Warner Cable in this instance and appreciate their continued support of NENA as well as their dedication to the safety of their customers,” said David Jones, National President, NENA.
Time Warner Cable continues to put the safety of its Digital Phone customers first. This includes maintaining a rapport with local Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) personnel and establishing a relationship with NENA chapters in Time Warner Cable markets. In June of 2005, Time Warner Cable participated in NENA’s 24th Annual Convention where Digital Phone’s E9-1-1 delivery was highlighted. The PSA, which was filmed in August, begins airing in February in Time Warner Cable markets, is yet another step in that commitment. Neither Time Warner Cable nor any other service provider is mentioned in the spot.
“We believe Enhanced 9-1-1 is a critical offering, which is why we have always provided it to our Digital Phone customers. We are pleased to work with the National Emergency Number Association to get this message out to the public,” said Sam Howe, Chief Marketing Officer, Time Warner Cable.
Digital Phone service was first launched in May 2003. Since then customers throughout the country have enjoyed the benefits and cost savings of this residential service which includes unlimited local, in-state and long distance calling throughout the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico for one low monthly price. Time Warner Cable Digital Phone, like most traditional phone service providers, automatically reports the telephone number and location of 9-1-1 calls made by Digital Phone customers, a capability called Enhanced 9-1-1. E9-1-1 service is one of the many standard features offered with Digital Phone service.
When Digital Phone customers dial 9-1-1, their calls are routed to the Public Service Answering Point (PSAP) Emergency Response Center where the local dispatcher is automatically be provided with that customer’s address and call back number. Digital Phone calls traverse Time Warner Cable’s private network instead of the public Internet network, increasing reliability and enabling Time Warner Cable to control the quality and security of telephone calls made by its customers. In connection with its Digital Phone service, Time Warner Cable is a member of the NENA’s E9-1-1 Next Generation Partnership Program.
