NEW YORK CITY (March 19, 2012) – Time Warner Cable today announced it is increasing downstream and upstream speeds for Internet customers in New York City, New Jersey and the Hudson Valley, beginning today. The faster speeds are designed to meet the demands of today’s broadband home, where consumers are using multiple devices to stream video and music, play games online, upload photos and download movies as well as other large files.
The top downstream speed for Broadband Turbo service will increase from 15 to 20 Mbps while the upstream speed will increase from 1 to 2 Mbps. Customers of Broadband Standard will have their upstream speeds doubled, going from 512 Kbps to 1 Mbps while downstream speeds will remain at 10 Mbps.
The faster speeds will be in effect automatically for all affected customers, with no change in the current price of the service.
These new speeds further position Time Warner Cable as a clear leader in speed compared to DSL Internet providers, with Time Warner Cable Broadband Internet customers receiving top speeds as much as 67 percent faster than similarly priced DSL offerings.
“Time Warner Cable’s faster Internet speeds will provide customer with a richer experience in everything from streaming movies, watching live TV with the TWC TV™ iPad app, uploading photos and everyday web browsing,” said John Quigley, Time Warner Cable’s Regional Vice President of Operations for New York City. “We’re investing in our network to increase Internet speeds and are pleased to bring this added value to our customers.”
“New Yorkers are demanding faster Internet speeds that DSL simply cannot provide. Our Internet speeds, combined with today’s upgrades, are why more people are selecting us as their online service provider,” added Quigley.
Speeds are also increasing for Time Warner Cable Internet customers with Lite Internet (from 768 Kbps to 1 Mbps downstream and 128 Kbps to 1 Mbps upstream) and Basic Internet (from 1.5 Mbps to 3 Mbps downstream and 256 Kbps to 1 Mbps upstream).
For customers with greater Internet speed demands, Time Warner Cable provides next-generation Internet service. Extreme service provides downstream speeds of up to 30 Mbps, while Wideband from Time Warner Cable is even faster with speeds up to 50 Mbps.
