Green Girls Summer Program Sponsored by Time Warner Cable Through It’s Connect A Million Minds® Initiative

Release Date: 07/27/2012

New York, July 27, 2012 – Time Warner Cable recently hosted the City Parks Foundation’s Green Girls for a fun and interactive Cracking the Codes in the Wireless World™ curriculum at the company’s office in the Flatiron district. More than a dozen employees volunteered their time to assist in workshop activities that demonstrated how science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) have given the world the ability to communicate via wireless devices.

The City Parks Foundation’s Green Girls Summer Institute is sponsored by Time Warner Cable’s Connect A Million Minds initiative, which inspires young people to become interested in the wonders of STEM.

“Through Time Warner Cable’s Connect A Million Minds program, we hope to inspire the City Parks Foundation’s Green Girls about the importance of STEM in our everyday activities,” said John Quigley, Regional Vice President of Operations in New York City. “Time Warner Cable is glad to be a part of the Green Girls summer learning experience and provide the opportunity for them to explore deeper into the magic and wonders of STEM.”

City Parks Foundation’s Green Girls Summer Institute is a program that focuses on enriching science learning and addressing environmental justice issues, through field trips, community service projects in parks, and citywide exploration.

“The natural resources of New York City provide a learning laboratory for our Green Girls,” City Parks Foundation’s Claudia DeMegret explains.  “Through applied study activities and hands-on experiments, young girls learn about science and environmental justice.  Each day, the program explores a different science or environmental topic, and the girls visit a different venue.  They learn that science can be fascinating and that careers in science are within their reach for the future.”
Founded in 1989, City Parks Foundation (CPF) is the only independent, nonprofit organization to offer park programs throughout the five boroughs of New York City.  CPF works in over 750 parks citywide, presenting a broad range of free arts, sports, and education programs, and empowering citizens to support their parks on a local level.  CPF’s programs and community building initiatives reach more than 600,000 people each year, contributing to the revitalization of neighborhoods throughout New York City.  For more details, please visit
