Time Warner Cable Metro Sports and Sports Radio 810 Partner to Bring “High School Gameday” to Kansas City Area High Schools

Live 30-minute pregame show debuts this Friday night at Blue Springs High School

Release Date: 08/22/2011

KANSAS CITY (August 22, 2011) – Two of Kansas City’s leaders for high school football coverage have partnered up for the 2011 season, as Time Warner Cable Metro Sports and Sports Radio 810 will bring “High School Gameday” to Kansas City area high schools each week this fall.

The 30-minute show will be simulcast live on Metro Sports and Sports Radio 810 from 6 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday evenings and will take place at the location of the Metro Sports “Hy-Vee High School Game of the Week.” The first “High School Gameday” broadcast will take place at Blue Springs High School this Friday, Aug. 26 prior to the huge season-opening matchup between Rockhurst and Blue Springs.

“High School Gameday” will be anchored by Steven St. John, who hosts “The Border Patrol” from 6 to 10 a.m. weekdays on Sports Radio 810. The show’s co-hosts include former Rockhurst High School star and Missouri running back Tony Temple and Sports Radio 810’s Jay Binkley, who hosts “3 Guys and a Garage” weeknights on the station. Metro Sports anchor Mick Shaffer and other Metro Sports personalities will also contribute as reporters and panelists.

The show will get high school football fans ready for the weekend’s biggest games, providing interviews with area coaches and in-depth previews of the “Hy-Vee High School Game of the Week” and all the other big games in the KC metro area.

“Kansas City has some of the most passionate high school football fans in the country, and it will be exciting to do these live Friday-night broadcasts with a great pregame atmosphere surrounding us,” TWC Metro Sports General manager Chris Huwe said. “We’re also really looking forward to partnering with Sports Radio 810. They have a great following, and like us, they are very committed to giving high school sports the coverage they deserve here in Kansas City.”

"This is very exciting for us to take Sports Radio 810 WHB's high school football programming to another level,” Union Broadcasting President Chad Boeger said. “We were the first sports radio station in Kansas City to cover high school football and to air games starting in 1997. Having the opportunity to partner with Metro Sports, which is THE destination channel for high school programming in Kansas City, was an easy decision for us. The real winners are fans of high school football, and we're looking forward to a great season."

Metro Sports is available throughout the Kansas City area on Time Warner Cable (channel 30 and 310 and in HD on 1310), Comcast (channel 258) and Knology in Lawrence (channel 37). Sports Radio 810 is located on the radio frequency 810 AM and can also be listened to online on http://www.810whb.com.
