Time Warner Cable Metro Sports Annual Volleyball Slam Returns to St. James Academy this Saturday

Sixteen of the top area teams will compete; admission only $5 for day-long event

Release Date: 08/25/2011

KANSAS CITY (August 25, 2011) – Kansas City’s premiere volleyball showcase returns this weekend, as the second annual Metro Sports Volleyball Slam will be held all-day Saturday at St. James Academy.

Last year’s Volleyball Slam featured six of the top Kansas City area volleyball teams. The huge fan turnout sparked this year’s expansion to a full day of action that will kick off the prep volleyball season.

This year 16 of the area’s top high school volleyball teams will be in action, and all the games will be taped and replayed throughout the upcoming weekend on Metro Sports. The Volleyball Slam field features two state champions from last season - St. James Academy and O'Hara - as well as three state runner-ups - St. Thomas Aquinas, Topeka Hayden and Lee's Summit West.

All games Saturday will be played at St. James Academy (at 24505 Prairie Star Parkway in Lenexa) with the first game starting at 8 a.m. Admission to the entire session featuring all eight games is only $5.

“The Metro Sports commitment to high school sports is unmatched in the Kansas City area, and the Volleyball Slam is another great example of that,” TWC Metro Sports General Manager Chris Huwe said. “This has become a can’t-miss event for volleyball fans here in KC, and we expect another great turnout this year.”
