Kansas City (January 26, 2012) – In addition to its tremendous coverage of Kansas City area sports, Time Warner Cable Metro Sports has also become well-known by its viewers as a home for award-winning original documentaries. Past programs have garnered critical acclaim, including “Border War,” “CityBall” and “K.C. on the Mat,” and Metro Sports’ newest documentary is set to premiere on Thursday, Feb. 2.
“Blazing Trails: The History of the Kansas City Comets,” will take a look back at the Comets’ glory days of the 1980’s. The one-hour documentary, produced by “K.C. on the Mat” creator Chris Gough, will debut at 7 p.m. on Feb. 2.
Kansas Citians have fond memories of the Comets, who thrilled local sports fans at Kemper Arena from 1981-1991, frequently playing in front of large, if not sold-out, crowds. The Comets made the MISL playoffs seven times, advancing to the division finals three teams, and featured stars such as Gino Schiraldi, Alan Mayer, Enzo DiPede, Zoran Savic and Gordon Hill. The new documentary will feature interviews with former players, coaches, fans and media members who were there when indoor soccer took Kansas City by storm in the early 1980’s.
“We’re also very proud of the great documentaries we have produced over the years,” said Chris Huwe, TWC Metro Sports general manager. “Back in the early 1980’s the Comets were the hottest ticket in town, and this new documentary will take a look back at those exciting times.”
Metro Sports is available throughout the Kansas City area on Time Warner Cable (channel 30, 310 and 1310-HD), Comcast (channel 44 and 258) and Knology in Lawrence (channel 37).
