KANSAS CITY (November 10, 2011) – In addition to its tremendous coverage of Kansas City area sports, Time Warner Cable Metro Sports has also become well-known by its viewers as a home for award-winning original documentaries. Past programs have garnered critical acclaim, including “Border War,” “CityBall” and “K.C. on the Mat,” and Metro Sports’ newest documentary is set to premiere on Monday, Nov. 14.
“Mr. Smith and the Marching Cobras” will debut at 6:30 p.m. on the 14th and will chronicle the life of Willie Arthur Smith, a true Kansas City legend. Since founding the Marching Cobras drill team over 42 years ago, Smith’s team has performed in 43 states and several countries overseas, winning over 300 awards in the process and becoming a staple of the Kansas City area sports scene.
In addition to the great performances he has helped direct, Mr. Smith’s tireless dedication to the development of the youth in Kansas City has had an enormous impact on the lives of thousands. When the Marching Cobras documentary premieres on Nov. 14, Metro Sports viewers will see how one junior high school teacher turned a talent show into an opportunity to change an entire city forever.
“Everyone knows Metro Sports as Kansas City’s local sports leader, but we’re also very proud of the great documentaries we have produced over the years,” said Chris Huwe, TWC Metro Sports general manager. “Anyone who has ever been to a sporting event in Kansas City has seen the Marching Cobras perform, and we’re excited to tell the great story behind this group that most people do not know.”
Metro Sports is available throughout the Kansas City area on Time Warner Cable (channel 30, 310 and 1310-HD), Comcast (channel 44 and 258) and Knology in Lawrence (channel 37).
