KANSAS CITY (September 7, 2011) – Time Warner Cable’s Emmy Award-winning “Fantasy Huddle,” already nationally syndicated in more than 20 markets throughout the United States, will now be shown around the globe as part of a partnership between Time Warner Cable and the USO.
Beginning this week, “Fantasy Huddle,” a weekly fantasy football-related show produced by Time Warner Cable Metro Sports, will be shown at USO centers in Germany, Italy, Afghanistan, Kuwait and Qatar. “Fantasy Huddle” will also now be available in the USO Center at Fort Myer, Va., which is home to the Arlington National Cemetery and the 3rd Infantry Division.
“Just like civilians, many members of the armed forces play fantasy football, and we are proud that we can provide the soldiers with a quality program that will help them out with their fantasy teams,” said Chris Huwe, General Manager of TWC Metro Sports. “Time Warner Cable has tremendous respect and appreciation for the United States military, and we couldn’t be more excited about this partnership.”
As part of the partnership, a new “Letters from Home” segment will now be a part of “Fantasy Huddle.” The USO will collect fantasy football questions from members of the armed forces and their family members around the globe, and the “Fantasy Huddle” crew will answer those questions each week on the program. Service members can use the hashtag #USOLettersFH to tweet their questions.
“This partnership is a win-win for both the USO and Time Warner Cable, but most importantly, this is great for the troops,” said Walt Murren, Acting Senior Vice President of Operations for the USO. “Many of our service members love to play fantasy football, and we know that ‘Fantasy Huddle’ will be a popular addition to our USO center programming.”
“Fantasy Huddle” has received widespread recognition since its debut in 2007, winning a regional Emmy award in 2009 in the category of outstanding news/interview-discussion program. Each week host Chris Gough and fantasy football experts Herbie Teope and Dave Neilson break down matchups, scrutinize the impact of injuries and identify which players should be starting and which should be left on the bench.
The program has a strong history with the armed forces, even prior to the partnership with the USO. “Fantasy Huddle” is broadcast in many TWC markets with military installations, including Fort Bragg, N.C.; Fort Hood and Fort Bliss, Texas; Fort Drum, N.Y.; Fort Jackson, S.C. and Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. The program also recently taped their season preview special at Fort Riley, Kan., and co-host Herbie Teope proudly served on Army active duty for 20 years.
Now in its fifth season, “Fantasy Huddle” airs exclusively in more than 20 Time Warner Cable national markets on both 24-hour sports and news networks via linear channels and On Demand platforms. Markets that carry the show include Los Angeles, Dallas, Cleveland, San Diego, Milwaukee, Kansas City, Charlotte and Austin.
