Mt. Vernon, NY – June 12, 2006 – Time Warner Cable of New York and New Jersey hosted a ceremony yesterday to present ten Mt. Vernon High School seniors with Youth Leadership Awards totaling $7,800. The program, now in its 18th year, provides students who demonstrate academic achievements, community service and leadership ability with funds to be used toward their college education.

Vernon thrive,” stated Brien Kelley, General Manager, Time Warner Cable. “Not only has each student proven their achievements academically, but I’m confident that with the same enthusiasm and determination they’ve displayed through community service and extra curricular activities, each student is sure to achieve the prudent goals they’ve outlined for the future.”
Students are selected based on a written application process and a video interview. Local community members served as judges for this prominent award. This year’s judges were Maureen Walker, City Controller, Danielle Jackson, Planning Department and Howard Feigenbaum, Business Owner.
The inspirational keynote speaker for this event was Marlene Furtick, Executive Director of the Westchester County Youth Bureau. Ms. Furtick is on the Advisory Board of the Westchester County’s Criminal Justice Board, Member of the NAACP, Life Member of the National Council of Negro Women and the National Association of Social Workers.
