Wilmington, NC (January 5, 2012) – Time Warner Cable today announced plans to bring together all of its Wilmington area offices into a new facility designed to meet LEED certification. Construction of the 45,000 square foot facility at 2321 Scientific Park Drive is expected to begin in February.
“Time Warner Cable is proud to serve customers in the Wilmington area and this facility reaffirms our commitment to the community and to protecting its delicate coastal environment,” said Christine Whitaker, Time Warner Cable area vice president of operations–Eastern NC. “We serve a coastal community, and we want our green building to reflect that and demonstrate our commitment to the sustainability of the region.”
All Wilmington area Time Warner Cable employees – from Operations to News 14 Carolina - will begin moving to the new facility in October. By having all of its employees under one roof, the company expects operational efficiencies and a more cohesive working environment. In keeping with Time Warner Cable’s green initiative, the facility includes new sustainable features like improved water and electrical efficiency, use of day lighting and superior indoor air quality.
John W. Farabow Jr., with Wilmington-based HR Associates, designed the new facility. Raleigh-based Williams Realty & Building Company will construct and lease the new facility to Time Warner Cable. According to Williams Realty, the total cost of the project is $6.4 million. Time Warner Cable has signed a long-term lease for the building with Williams.
*LEED Certification: “Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design” or LEED certification provides independent, third-party verification that a building was designed and built using strategies aimed at achieving high performance in key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.
