KANSAS CITY, April 17, 2015 – Time Warner Cable (TWC) customers in Kansas City will soon benefit from major enhancements that will transform their service as they know it today. This superior customer experience dubbed “TWC Maxx” features ultra-fast Internet speeds, state-of-the-art TV services and best-in-class reliability.
Starting next week, TWC will begin the final phase of creating an all-digital network by moving the last of its video channels from analog to digital, including the primary Kansas City area broadcast stations.
The transition to an all-digital network has been in process for several weeks, and the vast majority of customers have already taken the necessary steps to receive the new, all-digital lineup. Currently 99% of Kansas City TWC video customers have at least one cable box or a digital adapter. A digital adapter is a small device that allows digital signals to be displayed on TV. Customers who currently have a TWC set-top box do not require a digital adapter.
TWC is offering existing customers digital adapters at no charge through April 21, 2016. To qualify, customers must order their digital adapters by August 19, 2015. After this free period, each adapter will be billed at the prevailing price. TWC is offering residential customers several simple and easy ways to order digital adapters through http://www.TWC.com/digitaladapter, calling 1-844-233-9769 or in-person at a Time Warner Cable store.
Moving to an all-digital lineup is a significant initial step in improving the customer experience as analog channels require significantly more bandwidth than digital channels. Each analog channel takes the space of three to four HD channels and up to 12 digital networks.
“With ‘TWC Maxx,’ we’re going to essentially reinvent the TWC experience,” said Perry Watson, TWC’s Kansas City Vice President of Operations. “We will boost Internet speeds for customers up to four times faster, add to Kansas City’s robust TWC WiFi, dramatically improve the TV product and set a high bar in our industry for differentiated, exceptional customer service.”
The key components of TWC’s new customer experience are:
New Internet Experience for Residential Customers
The Internet transformation includes speed increases on TWC residential Internet plans at no additional cost, with customers experiencing increases up to four times faster, depending on their current level of Internet service. For example, customers who subscribe to Standard, formerly up to 15 Mbps, will now receive up to 50 Mbps, customers who subscribe to Extreme, formerly up to 50 Mbps, will now receive up to 200 Mbps; and customers who subscribe to Ultimate, formerly up to 100 Mbps, will receive up to 300 Mbps, at no extra charge.
New TV Experience
The advanced TV experience includes Enhanced DVR, which lets customers simultaneously record up to six different programs, and the ability to save 150 hours of high-definition (HD) programming on its 1TB (terabyte) hard drive, which is twice the storage of the largest prior model. Customers will also have access to an all-digital lineup and an expanded On Demand library that has reached 19,000 titles, growing to more than 30,000 by the end of the year.
Rock-Solid Network Reliability
As TWC has committed to new network performance standards companywide, this initiative will include a stringent review and upgrade of every network connection site (referred to as hubs) to ensure optimum service levels are delivered to every neighborhood. Each TWC hub serves thousands of customers with TV, Internet and phone services.
