Queens, New York (November 12, 2015) - Time Warner Cable (TWC) today held a grand opening for a new experience store located in Astoria, Queens. The new store continues TWC’s investments to improve customer service and features an innovative retail concept that provides an enhanced, hands-on experience to learn about and enjoy TWC’s suite of TV, Internet and Home Phone services.
TWC also announced a $50,000 grant to the Variety Boys & Girls Club of Queens to open a TWC Learning Lab at its Long Island City location. The state-of-the art computer and technology center will open on November 19.
“This new store is all about providing local residents with an inviting, convenient location to receive excellent customer service and experience all the technologies we have to offer,” said Blaine Altaffer, senior vice president of residential sales for Time Warner Cable. “We’re also proud of the new jobs that this store creates and, reflecting Astoria’s great diversity, will continue to hire people of various ethnic backgrounds to help us better serve our valued customers.”
"We’re excited about all the recent investments we’ve made here in Queens,” said Brien Kelley, NYC area vice president of operations for Queens and Brooklyn, Time Warner Cable. “We’re delivering faster Internet speeds, better TV and phone services, 1-hour appointment arrival windows and have now opened new stores in Astoria and Flushing. The TWC team is also especially proud to partner with the Variety Boys & Girls Club of Queens by providing technology and resources to support its mission of serving the diverse needs of local residents.”
“We are so excited about our partnership with Time Warner Cable. The 700 children served by the Variety Boys & Girls Club of Queens will have access to a state of the art facility, which opens the doors to 21st Century learning opportunities. The Time Warner Cable Learning Lab will provide access to tools and hands on learning that our students will need for future studies and careers in the science, technology, engineering, and math fields. Because of this grant, new programs in robotics, graphic design, and audio engineering are already being designed and align perfectly with the ever expanding interests of our youth,” said Matthew Troy, executive director of Variety Boys & Girls Club of Queens.
TWC committed in 2011 to open 40 Learning Labs in New York City by 2020 — providing low income communities with access to computers and high-speed Internet. TWC’s total investment to equip these 40 facilities is anticipated to exceed $2 million, plus additional in-kind funding from Time Warner Cable Business Class for complimentary Internet and video services. Non-profit partners, such as Variety Boys & Girls Club of Queens, oversee a lab’s daily operations and utilize their technologies for the people they serve.
The new store complements several initiatives to improve customer service for TWC customers. TWC Maxx has transformed the TV and Internet service experience by bringing Internet speeds up to six times faster than before, an advanced TV experience featuring Enhanced DVR with more storage and recording capabilities, video improvements including more On Demand choices and an all-digital lineup, plus a rock-solid network to ensure optimum performance and reliability. TWC also offers industry-leading one-hour appointment arrival windows, as well as same day appointments.
The Astoria store, located at 3101 23rd Avenue in Astoria, is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The store is the second location that TWC has opened within the borough this year to better serve customers, following this summer’s opening of a store in Flushing at The Shops at Skyview Center. TWC also operates other stores in Queens at The Queens Center in Elmhurst and on Atlantic Avenue in Jamaica.
