If you’re in and around Charlotte and surfing the Web using public WiFi, there’s a good chance you’re on Time Warner Cable’s multimillion dollar WiFi network. That’s because today the network offers more than 1,700 hotspots available at no cost to Time Warner Cable customers with Standard Internet or above, and on a pay-as-you-go-basis to non-subscribers.
"Investments in technology are important to build on Charlotte’s strong reputation as a great place to live and work," said State Senator Bob Rucho. "I am pleased with Time Warner Cable's investment to keep its customers connected when they leave home to experience the many great things the Charlotte area has to offer."
The company launched the first phase of its WiFi network build-out in August 2012 with 200 hotspots and has steadily grown the network to cover areas throughout Charlotte, including downtown and popular shopping, entertainment and visitor destinations. Among the recent areas and places where TWC WiFi has been deployed are:
- Carolina Place Mall area
- Park Road Shopping Center area
- Arboretum Shopping Center area
- Cotswold Shopping Center area
- Freedom Village Shopping Center area
- Plaza Midwood Historic District area

“We know our customers want to take the great Time Warner Cable Internet experience they have at home wherever they go,” said Mike Smith, area vice president of operations, Time Warner Cable – Charlotte. “That’s why we’ve added more than 1,500 hotspots in the Charlotte area in the past year — bringing WiFi to areas where our customers live, work and play.”
In addition to Time Warner Cable’s extensive WiFi network in Charlotte, TWC WiFi deployment is underway in Austin, Kansas City, Hawaii, Southern California and New York City. Time Warner Cable Internet customers also have access to the nation’s largest free WiFi Hotspot network, with over 200,000 hotspots, through the Cable WiFi® network. The network enables TWC Internet customers to access the hotspots operated by TWC and other Internet service providers in major cities across the country including New York City; Los Angeles; Chicago; Philadelphia; Atlanta; Baltimore; Boston; Washington, D.C.; San Francisco; Orlando; Tampa, Kansas City, Charlotte and more.
