Most customer-owned devices will work with IPv6. Customer-owned Internet or WiFi modems and wireless routers will be provisioned with both IPv4 and IPv6 simultaneously. For equipment that is five or more years old, there’s a good chance that it’s not possible to upgrade the software to support IPv6. In these cases, the older customer-owned equipment will be able to communicate only with networks and devices that use the IPv4 protocol.
