Phone FAQs

What are Call Blocker Basic and Call Blocker Plus and how do they work?

Call Blocker Basic allows you to block calls from people who choose to hide their outbound caller ID. Most phone companies allow users to hide their outbound caller ID as a legitimate privacy protection tool. Unfortunately, however, a growing number of telemarketers are using this tool to hide their caller IDs illegally. Our customers can chose to block any call with a hidden caller ID using Call Blocker Basic.

Call Blocker Plus allows you to block calls from people who “spoof” their caller ID replacing their real caller ID information with something misleading. In some cases, “spoofers” deliberately strip all caller ID information off their calls to get past defenses such as Call Blocker Basic. TWC users can choose to block all calls with either a “spoofed” ID or with no Caller ID information at all by using Call Blocker Plus. Note: This setting may block some legitimate calls, such as incoming international long distance.

You can turn on only one of the two Call Blocker options or you can turn them both off.

Call Blocker Basic and Call Blocker Plus are included in your Phone service.

In addition to configuring Call Blocker Basic in VoiceZone®, you can use star codes on your phone to turn it on or off. Press *77 to activate Call Blocker Basic and wait for the confirmation tone. All unidentified calls will be rejected. To deactivate it, press *87. There are no star codes for Call Blocker Plus at this time.
